Latest version: QuakeExplorer v2.0.0X02 (04May2004);
change history
The
QuakeExplorer software is
under development. Check this page regularly for updates.
QuakeExplorer now
supports viewing parameteric information and displaying near-realtime
streams from a SeedLink server. See the Help in
QuakeExplorer and SeisGram2K
SeedLink Monitor - QuickStart for more information |
QuakeExplorer
is supported in part by the EU-project MEREDIAN (contract no
EVR1-CT-2000-40007), and by Anthony
Lomax
Scientific Software
Try
QuakeExplorer to browse the latest
events from ORFEUS-POND
or EDUSeis-Nice:
Instructions for Download and Running:
The
QuakeExplorer browser is a stand-alone Java application. It will run on
Windows, Linux, Solaris, MacOS and other systems. To run the
QuakeExplorer browser, you must
have the Java Platform for Java 2
(Java version 1.2.2) or higher available on your system.
- Make sure that the command java
is
available on your program search path. (Enter: java -version to
see if Java is properly installed, available on the path, and to
determine its version.)
- Download
QuakeExplorer:
- Download
the java archive QuakeExplorer20.jar (3.0Mb) to a
convenient installation directory (i.e. my_QuakeExplorer_installation_directory/).
- Depending on your Java installation and system
environment, you may be able to run QuakeExolorer by simply opening the
file QuakeExplorer20.jar, if not, go to step 3 below.
- Run QuakeExplorer:
- From the
command line, or within a script or batch file, enter:
[JAVA_PATH]java -cp CLASS_DIR/QuakeExplorer20.jar
net.alomax.quakeexplorer.QuakeExplorer [QE_DATABASE]
where:
JAVA_PATH is an
optional path to the Java
Platform bin directory; it is
required if the Java Platform bin directory
is not on your
program search path,
CLASS_DIR is the
path to the installation directory where you placed the file QuakeExplorer.jar (i.e. my_QuakeExplorer_installation_directory)
(On WIndows, remember to use "\" instead of "/" as separator
character.)
By default,
QuakeExplorer will load
events
from the ORFEUS-POND QuakeExplorer database over the Internet.
You must have an active Internet
connection to access this
database. Use the Search menu database list in
QuakeExplorer to open and
browse other
QuakeExplorer databases.
- QE_DATABASE is
an optional Uniform Resouce Locator (web address or local directory
name) for the base directory of a QuakeExplorer database (i.e http://orfeus.knmi.nl/QuakeExplorer/base
for the ORFEUS-POND QuakeExplorer database) or the inet adress of a
SeedLink server in the form seedlink://host:port
(If DATABASE is
not specified, QuakeExplorer will attempt to load the default
QuakeExplorer database specified at http://www.alomax.net/QuakeExplorer/defaultbase)
- For more information and options for
running and using
QuakeExplorer, consult the Help
in QuakeExplorer.

You can override the
default Earth model used by TauP to display theoretical travel times in
SeisGram2K by creating or editing a sg2kdefaults
(or .sg2kdefaults) file
in your working or home directory to include a line of the form:
seisgram2k.taup.model
= MODEL.taup
where MODEL
is one of iasp91, ak135, jb or prem. Similarly, you can
override the default theoretical phases that are displayed by including
a line of the form:
seisgram2k.taup.phases =
p,s,P,S,Pn,Sn,PcP,Pdiff,PKP,pP,sP
See SeisGram2K->Help->Running,arguments
and The TauP Toolkit
for more information.
