Drawings from a walk in the Southern Alps, June 1997

We began in Levens, just north of Nice. We walked for 15 days. We climbed tiresomely up to the ridge tops and plateaus, and more painfully down to the valleys and gorges, and again up to the lush pastures and barren glacial valleys, and down to abandoned ancient villages and bustling provincial towns. We finally reached the Var river at Puget-Theniers and ended our walk just to the west, at the medieval fortress town of Entrevaux.

All of the following images were scanned from original oil pastels on paper, 30x42 cm. The scanned images are slightly cropped along all edges.
