Features of the viewer include:

• direct reading of trace data files over the Internet
• direct, interactive reading of trace data from a Buffer of Uniform Data (BUD) directory
• Internal browser for opening trace data files on a web server
• reading data in SAC binary and ascii, GSE21, mini-SEED, SEED (preliminary), strong-motion and other formats:
  (SAC_BINARY, SAC_ALPHA, SG2K_ASCII, FULL_SEED, MINI_SEED, MINI_SEED_BUD, GSE21, WAV, QCNLIVE_CSV, USGS_SMC, NIED_KNET, CDMG_CSMIP, PEPP, TITAN, FVGN, DEPREM_ASCII, SEESLO, DART)
  WARNING: The mni-SEED, SEED and TITAN volume-based formats are complex; always check for correct reading and timing of data from these formats.

SeisGram2K can be run in two ways:

• As a stand-alone application (SeisGram2K) that runs locally and which can read data files locally or across the Internet.
  SeisGram2K stand-alone will run on any type of computer which has a recent version of Java available on your system (JRE (Java Runtime Environment - for end users), or Java SDK (Java Software Development Kit - for developers)), you can download Java for LINUX, Solaris, Macintosh and Windows.  Additional features of the stand-alone application SeisGram2K include:
  • direct reading of data files over the Internet from any server
  • printing
  • saving traces to disk in SAC binary format
  • display and interactive update of seismic phase travel-times using the TauP toolkit

• As an applet (SeisGram2KApp) that is installed on a central web server and which is launched over the Internet from an HTML web page on the server.
  SeisGram2KApp "applet" can be viewed from any type of computer with Internet access and a recent web browser that supports Java 2 or higher (i.e. Netscape 7 or higher, Internet Explorer 6 or higher).
  The default applet security settings restrict SeisGram2KApp to reading data files only from the same server from which it was launched. These security restrictions also prevent or limit the printing and writing of data files.

Download and Installation

SeisGram2K and SeisGram2KApp are available for free download from the web: Download and install instructions for the current version or (recommend) Update to the most recent beta release under the terms of the GNU General Public License.
